Typo O Negative

Type O Negative, hugely influential in the dark world of gothic metal, enshrined an enviable position in the music sector. Sporting long silhouettes and bristly beards, the band was instantly recognizable. Meanwhile, their music was all shades of black and red; a threnody of bereavement and a paean to love. Their frontman, Peter Steele, was a bassist-cum-vocalist of incommensurable charisma, helmed the group with his unmistakable baritone voice that oscillated from pained to aggressive. The band's 1993 album "Bloody Kisses" smashed into the Billboard's top 100, making them the first band of their genre to achieve this milestone.

One of the classic videos from Type O Negative is “Black No.1 (Little Miss Scare-All)”. Directed by Parris Mayhew, frontman of the band Cro-Mags, this video infused the band's dark humor and gothic aesthetic with a tip of the hat to B-movie horror, capturing the crew in sepulchral black and white. Even more interestingly, Steele had an authentic job as a park maintenance supervisor when the group was initially blooming in the music scene. His work involved driving a garbage truck, which occasionally served as the band's tour bus. Furthermore, did you know Steele posed for 'Playgirl' Magazine in 1995, revealing not only his body but also his sense of irony when he declared himself as Amish on the questionnaire accompanying the photoshoot. Despite (or thanks to) their outrageous antics, Type O Negative left an indelible mark on the music industry.
