SBTRKT

SBTRKT, the stage name of Aaron Jerome, is a British artist whose influence in the electronic music industry is undeniable. Masked, mysterious, SBTRKT signed onto Young Turks label and exploded with a distinctive blend of dubstep, RnB, techno, soul and synthpop in 2011, with collaborations featuring the likes of Little Dragon and Jessie Ware. An interesting fact: the name is actually pronounced "subtract" - he initially wanted to eschew the world of celebrity culture and let his music speak for itself.

In terms of music videos, SBTRKT has created some of the most visually enticing works in the business. The video for "Wildfire", featuring Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon, is imbued with a neon psychedelic aesthetic that perfectly complements the song's mesmerising, pulsating beats. His "New Dorp. New York" video featuring Ezra Koenig offers a film-noir twist with anthropomorphic critters prowling the fictional cityscape that smacks of Orwellian dystopia. Meanwhile, "Trials of the Past” ft. Sampha video is cinematically captivating - it’s a gritty, futuristic mini-movie teeming with mutant barbers and neon-lit cities. A word of warning: don’t watch this one before heading to your next haircut appointment.
