KYUSS

KYUSS, the hard-hitting quintet from Palm Desert, California, erupted in the music scene during the late 80s. Their music was a rebellious and a gritty clash of psychedelic rock, stoner metal, and grunge; a raw, unfiltered sound that was a breath of fresh air during the heyday of polished pop music. Gradually, they carved out a niche for themselves, becoming the unsung pioneers of the desert rock genre. Despite the lack of significant commercial success, Kyuss established a cult following and their infrequent musical offerings radiated an unapologetic energy that still cracks the music industry to its foundation.

Videos were a bit of a rarity for Kyuss, with only a handful available. Nevertheless, each one of them seems to encapsulate the band's uniqueness brilliantly. ‘Green Machine’, easily one of their most recognizable songs, comes with a video that perfectly captures the essence of the band – raw, unfettered, and carefree. The band members are shown simply jamming, oozing with sweat and intensity, much like their live performances. 'Thumb', another significant hit, also had its footage. The video's grainy texture and disoriented frames help intensify the gnarly, fuzz-infused nature of the track. They didn't opt for high-budget, theatrical stunts to draw attention, letting their music do all the talking.

One interesting tidbit about Kyuss is in relation to the name they initially chose for themselves. They began as 'Sons of Kyuss', a name borrowed from a character in the fantasy role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. However, they soon shortened it to 'Kyuss', cementing their signature style of not conforming to norms, and letting their music create the magic, which even decades down the line, continues to leave their audience enthralled.
