Foals

When it comes to the British indie rock scene, Foals most certainly have made a significant mark. Probably one of the greatest contributions this Oxford quintet has accomplished lies in their blurring lines between genres, from math rock-to techno-to punk all in a single track, posing a vibrant unpredictability. It's a bit like the musical equivalent of spinning a globe, closing your eyes, randomly putting your finger down and seeing where you've landed. Speaking of quirky captures, their 2013 release "My Number" comes to mind – where, during the video shoot, the cascading crowd of dancers were asked to pump a flyaway beach ball back into the scene to keep it from blocking the camera.

Looking at the variety of their music videos, you can see they've painted a rich tapestry in terms of visual storytelling. Their video for "Late Night" directed by Nabil Elderkin, takes us through a suffocating mire of human misery set in a smoky Romanian hotel. In contrast, the one for "Bad Habit," directed by Nabil Elderkin as well, unfurls a mysterious desert journey with lead singer Yannis Philippakis chasing a mirage-like woman. These visual treats not only complement their sonic versatility but indeed showcases the band's penchant for the unconventional. Who knows, maybe they might release a space opera music video featuring Yannis leading a Martian punk band. With Foals, one can only expect the unexpected!
