DJ Mehdi, a titan in the French electro music scene, began his journey in the 90s with hip-hop beats before progressing to the electronically-infused synths that characterized his later sound. Known as the go-to guy for the cutting-edge Parisian record label Ed Banger, DJ Mehdi's daring fusion of styles caused uproar in the industry, even catching the attention of Pedro Winter, the ex-manager of iconic duo Daft Punk and owner of the label. One of his most recognizable works would be his video for "Signatune." Another iconic video is "I am somebody," featuring vocals from Chromeo. With neon aesthetics and a playful narrative dancing around a curious love triangle, it not only portrayed his quality music but also his robust sense of personality. Fascinatingly, during the shoot for this video, Mehdi allegedly lost a bet and begrudgingly agreed to make a cameo, donning a gaudy, gold outfit.
