CHROMATICS

CHROMATICS is an electronic music band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2001. While the group's initial sound leaned towards punk-inspired noise rock, a significant stylistic shift in 2005 saw the band pivot towards a new genre known as "Italo Disco," fusing elements of 1980s synth pop and post-punk. They became known for their minimalist electronic beats, ethereal vocals, and mix of live instrumentation and synthesized soundscapes. It gave new life to the electronic music genre and carved out a niche for the group in the industry.

As part of the audio-visual collective known as Italians Do It Better, the CHROMATICS' most striking impact may be in their unorthodox yet captivating music videos, often directed by band member, Johnny Jewel. The video for "In The City" is a beautifully nostalgic journey pieced together from 1970s stock footage. "Tick of the Clock," on the other hand, invites viewers on a gripping high-speed chase. Their videos often serve as atmospheric mood pieces rather than conventional narrative music videos. You maybe interested to know that one of their most experimental is for their 30-minute-long track, "These Streets Will Never Look the Same." The video was shot by band member Nat Walker on an iPhone during their tour, proving that you don’t need high-end equipment to create a visually stunning film.
