Apparat

Apparat, the stage name of German electronic musician Sascha Ring, is no ordinary artist. With a background in techno, Ring merges a range of diverse sounds — from IDM and glitch, to ambient and experimental rock — leading to creations that brim with singular dynamism. After founding the German music label Shitkatapult with Marco Haas, his influence reached far beyond the borders of his native country, transforming the global electronic scene of the early 2000s. His 2006 album, "Orchestra Of Bubbles," which he co-produced with Ellen Allien, as an example, was a tour-de-force that augmented the digital beats with subtlety and grace, upending the genre's conventions.

Apparat's uniqueness also extends to his music videos, many of which are as much exercises in storytelling as they are showcases for his captivating music. Take the video for "Song Of Los," where director Saman Kesh painted a wrenching portrait of a love story set against the ticking clock of an impending asteroid strike. Also noteworthy is the video for "Bad Kingdom," from his collaborative project Moderat, where Pfadfinderei used complex narrative-driven animations to explore generational cycles of power. But, perhaps, the most eccentric would be the visual take on his track "Black Water." The video, directed by Sophie Gateau, features a fleet of glowing triangles moving through a stark 3D landscape — a piece of trivia that his fans might find intriguing.

Whether it's with his game-changing music or his cinematic music videos, Apparat is nothing short of a true trailblazer in the realm of electronic music.
