Nathaniel Axel is a talented man who refuses to let the rules of the conventional box in his creative genius. As a music video director, Axel has carved out a unique niche in the industry that's hard to ignore. His aptitude for marrying edgy, raw narratives with evocative aesthetics reflects in his much-acclaimed music video for Skrillex's "Dirty Vibe". Apart from the electric energy that Axel's visuals introduce, it's perhaps Skrillex's glow-in-the-dark hair that catches the eye and leaves a lasting impression. If you think you've seen everything, well...think again!
In Sarah Jaffe's "Clementine", Axel creates a hauntingly beautiful tableau that resonates long after you've watched the video. From the poignant narrative to the visually stunning cinematography, it's a work of art that firmly established Axel as a visionary. As if the magic he weaves with his videos isn't enough, Axel’s knack for encouraging peculiar but compelling contrast shines through when he managed to get a tarantula to feature in the “Clementine” video just because he thought it would make a nice prop. Turns out, the tarantula (with no prior showbiz experience!) did indeed add an unexpected touch to the poignant narrative. Nobody saw that coming, and maybe that’s precisely what Axel wanted.
